NUTRITION

A Holistic Approach

If you’re looking to live a long and healthy life, consider switching to a plant-based lifestyle. A plant-based diet is nutrient-dense, it provides carbohydrates, fats, protein, and fiber. Living a plant-based lifestyle helps to reduce inflammation, improve immunity, boost energy and ward off chronic diseases and dependency on medication. Along with exercise, proper hydration, self-care, and spiritual practice, I have found this to be a recipe for longevity and a youthful appearance.

I have lived a plant-based, vegetarian and vegan lifestyle for over 30 years, removing processed foods and sugars and animal products from my diet. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, and whole grains are my staples.

Getting started on a plant-based diet may seem overwhelming, but take it one day at a time. Eat a variety of fruits and/or vegetables with all meals. Incorporate whole grains, such as oatmeal, quinoa, farro, brown rice, or whole wheat bread. Healthy fats—avocado, nuts, olives, seeds—are a great way to keep you satisfied. Lentils, beans, peas, nuts and seeds are a great way to get your protein.

For carnivores, lean meats that are grass fed and fish that is wild caught are also recommended.
